On Athenain Religion: The Material Culture of Ancient Attic Beleif, Practice, and Society aims to redefine our understanding of ancient Athenian religion through a comprehensive analysis of material culture and sensory experiences. Moving beyond traditional text-centric approaches, the study delves into the physical objects, sacred spaces, and embodied practices that shaped religious life in archaic and classical Athens. By examining votive offerings, cult statues, ritual implements, and the multisensory nature of religious ceremonies, the work seeks to reconstruct the lived experiences of ancient worshippers across various social strata. The project integrates methods from archaeology, anthropology, and cognitive science to offer a nuanced exploration of how religion permeated all aspects of Athenian society, from grand civic festivals to intimate household rituals. This approach promises to shed new light on the complex interplay between religious practices, political structures, and social identities in one of the ancient world's most influential cities.
